Standard 2

Educators act ethically and maintain the integrity, credibility and reputation of the profession.

THE WHAT:

To be a classroom professional, I need to act ethically inside and outside of my profession. Taking part in this career choice means that I will always look, act, and make choices that benefit the integrity of myself and the profession.

THE SO WHAT:

I have made a consistent and successful effort to act ethically since before my entry into the Bachelors of Education program. I dress appropriately, take part in community-building extracurricular activities, and make myself a known and positive presence in any workspace. I have maintained multiple positions at the University of Northern British Columbia that follow the same code of ethics. I work as a marker in the First Nations Department, a Writing and Study Skills tutor in the Academic Success Centre, and a Research Assistant in the History Department. In addition, I have served a two-year term on the Board of Directors at the Omineca Arts Centre and taught art classes at the Two Rivers Gallery since the summer of 2018.

THE NOW WHAT:

I feel that I have proven myself ethically sound in the community I live in. I want to be able to concentrate all of this energy in my position as an educator and hone my efforts within my new profession.

Artefact:

I didn’t really have a picture that embodied this standard. I’ll find one next practicum. But, for now, enjoy this picture of all the sticky notes my Grade 8 students applied to do a group activity analyzing the differences between internal and external identity traits.
